Indian National Bibliography

    The first issue of INB “Quarterly” brought out but central Reference Library, Calcutta, was released on 15th august 1958 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Since 1964, it has been published as monthly and cumulated every year. It works as a subordinate office of the ministry of culture GoI.

Entries in The INB are arranged in a Classified Sequence as per the Dewey Decimal of Subject Classification [22nd edition] 

The Corresponding Colon classification [6th edition] is also Assigned at The Hand Corner Below each Entry. 

Chain Procedure is Used for Subject Headings.

2. Governmental Publication 


AACR - 2 [Anglo American Cataloguing Rule 2 edition] is used for Cataloguing. 

In this Part, entries are arranged to Alphabetical order. 

    INB has been Conceived as an Accurate, Comprehensive and Authoritative Bibliographical record of Current Publication in the 14 Major Languages of India including English based on the books received by the National Library Kolkata under the Provision of The Delivery of books act 1954.

2. Subject Part 

3. Author Part 


Index Indiana is published in 6 languages. Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Gujrati, Hindi, Malayalam.
